2Restore dharma (righteousness)
3Protect sages and innocent people
What is the Story Behind Parshuram Jayanti?

Lord Parshuram’s actions come from a time when power was no longer connected to dharma. In other words, rulers who were meant to preserve and protect had instead become oppressive. Parshuram’s father, the sage Jamadagni, possessed a divine cow called Kamadhenu that supplied everything needed for the ashram. When the king of the time, Kartavirya Arjuna, came to visit, he was in awe of the cow. Instead of respecting the sage, he tried to take Kamadhenu by force. When the sage refused, the king’s men took Kamadhenu and killed him as well. When Parshuram returned to the ashram, the place where the sound of mantras once filled the air was now silent. His father lay dead and the order of the ashram was destroyed. This grief slowly turned into determination to see justice served. He did not act out of impulse, but with a clear purpose to end Kartavirya Arjuna’s life. He set out, confronted him, and brought an end to him. But it did not stop there. He made a vow, not out of personal revenge but out of duty, that no ruler who misused power would be allowed to stand. From that point on, Parshuram became the force that challenged tyranny wherever it appeared, restoring balance where it had been lost.
