Every 15th of August, the tricolour makes its way up on rooftops, on car dashboards, on school grounds and on Instagram stories. We all remember the textbook story about the colours - saffron for bravery, white for peace and green for prosperity, along with the Ashoka Chakra of progress. It is a nice story but it is not the only one.
The philosophy of Sanatan has spent thousands of years searching for answers of a very similar question - what do the colours do to us? Which energy do they have and how do they affect the state of mind, our emotions and a whole nation. The ancient sages had already started exploring the effects of the different colours on the mind and on the consciousness in terms of the doctrine of tri-gunas - three qualities that complete nature, matter and each one of us, long before there were any manuals for creating flags.
Through the eyes of the philosophy of Sanatan, the Indian flag is no longer just a symbol of a certain historical date of 1947 but rather a mirror of the internal world of each person whose design by absolute intention or cosmic accident reflects the tri-gunas perfectly.
