Shukra Pradosh Vrat is considered a very sacred occasion to seek the blessings of Bhagwan Shiv and Maa Parvati. The worship performed during Pradosh Kaal helps devotees overcome negativity, find peace of mind, and move forward on the path of dharma.
This vrat becomes even more special when it falls on a Friday. In Hindu tradition, Friday is associated with Shukra Dev, who governs love, marital harmony, beauty, and financial abundance. Because of this, many devotees observe Shukra Pradosh Vrat and pray for happiness in married life, harmony in the family, and blessings for a comfortable and prosperous life. Many devotees also believe that sincere worship of Mahadev on this day removes obstacles from important areas of life and brings strength during difficult times.
There were once three inseparable friends: a prince, the son of a Brahmin, and the son of a wealthy merchant. Bound by a bond as strong as brotherhood, they shared every aspect of their lives with one another. One day, while they were sitting together and talking about their families, the Brahmin's son spoke about his married life. He said, “A home feels complete because of a woman. She brings happiness, warmth, and peace to the family.”
Hearing this, the merchant's son began thinking about his own wife, who was still living at her parents' home after marriage because her formal farewell ceremony had not yet taken place. He missed her deeply and decided that he would bring her home immediately. When he shared his decision with his parents, they tried to stop him. They explained that Shukra Dev was in the period of Shukra Asta, which was considered an unfavourable time for such a journey. They advised him to wait for the proper muhurat. But the young man did not listen and travelled to his in-laws' house to bring his wife home.
As the couple started their journey back, one problem followed another. First, their cart met with an accident and both of them were injured. After some time, robbers stopped them on the road and took away their money, jewellery, and other valuables. Somehow, they managed to return home, but their troubles did not end there. Soon, the merchant's son was bitten by a poisonous snake and became seriously ill.
The entire family was worried and filled with sorrow. When the Brahmin friend heard about everything that had happened, he quickly came to visit them. After listening to the family, he understood the reason behind these difficulties. He gently said, “Your son was advised not to bring his wife home during Shukra Asta, but he ignored that advice. Since then, one problem after another has entered the family.”
He then comforted them and said: Do not lose faith. Send the couple back to her parents' home for the time being. Along with this, pray to Bhagwan Shiv and Maa Parvati and observe the sacred Shukra Pradosh Vrat with devotion.
The family followed the advice. They observed the vrat and prayed sincerely to Bhagwan Shiv and Maa Parvati. Slowly, the merchant's son's health began to improve. Before long, he recovered completely. With the blessings of Bhagwan Shiv and Maa Parvati, peace returned to the household and the family's troubles finally came to an end.
