Keep it clean by dusting it with a dry soft cloth. Use a wet cloth for difficult stains but then immediately wipe it clean with a dry one. Harsh chemicals, brass polish, and immersing it in water will cause the white color to fade. It is also a form of devotion and many devotees do this on Fridays, which belong to Goddess Lakshmi.
