It is one of the Divya Desams, the 108 sacred Vishnu temples revered in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham. Built in magnificent Dravidian architectural style, the temple features a towering rajagopuram and a chariot-shaped sanctum. It is an important pilgrimage center in Kumbakonam and attracts thousands of devotees, especially during Vaikunta Ekadasi and the annual Brahmotsavam festival.
