As per Hindu scriptures, there was a poor Brahmin family. They loved and trusted Bhagwan Shiv with all their heart. The Brahmin's wife never missed a Pradosh Vrat. She prayed to Bhagwan Shiv every single time, with full faith.
Then one day, something bad happened. Her son went to bathe in the Ganga river, just like any other day. But on his way home, the king's soldiers stopped him. They said he had stolen something. He hadn't. But they didn't listen. They put him in jail.
His mother heard the news. She was scared, but she didn't give up hope. That evening, she kept the Pradosh Vrat again. She prayed hard to Bhagwan Shiv. She asked only one thing: keep my son safe.
That night, something amazing happened. Bhagwan Shiv came into the king's dream. He told the king clearly that the boy was innocent. When the king woke up, he didn't ignore the dream. He checked the matter himself. He found out the boy had done nothing wrong. So he let him go and even gave the family land and riches. Since then, devotees observe Ravi Pradosh Vrat with complete faith and sincerity, believing that Bhagwan Shiv will protect them.
Devotees wake up early in the morning, take a bath, and wear clean clothes. Many devotees begin the day by offering Arghya to Bhagwan Surya using a copper vessel along with jaggery, wheat, and red flowers. Many spend time chanting “Om Hraam Hreem Hraum Sah Suryaya Namah,” reading Surya Sahasranama (1,000 names of Bhagwan Surya), or listening to Surya Dev bhajans with devotion.
In the evening, during Pradosh Kaal, devotees worship Bhagwan Shiv, visit temples, and perform Shiv Rudrabhishek puja. Many chant “Om Namah Shivaya,” recite Shiv Chalisa or Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, and listen to Shiv bhajans.
